Well, today, skimming thorugh today's newspaper's front page, I happened to catch a glimpse of something rather exciting. I read a tiny description along with a picture. Too bad I'm unable to show the picture. Here's a little something that makes living in Huntington, IN sometimes really neat.

Flying Free and Proud-- A bald eagle soars above the Historic Forks of the Wabash area in Huntington, Indiana at U.S.-24 and Ind.-9 Saturday morning. A 12-year-old boy captured the bird on film. His father said they've seen the bird flying around the Forks for the past several weeks.

Now, I know some of you live in areas where bald eagles soar, but some places, like Huntington, IN, for instance is a place where creatures like this are so very uncommon. For me, hearing this makes me excited to know there's a bald eagle in my little home town, living close by. That's really neat. :D What do you guys think of this? :))

It's always neat to see a bald eagle in flight. Here in Ft. Collins CO we see them occasionally. mostly we get Harris and Red-tailed hawks so seeing an eagle, especially a bald is always enjoyable. Hope you get an oppurtunity to see it Kielo.

we have tons of redtails around here(ohio if you were wondering) and bald eagles lived here historically but the only wild eagles ive seen were in the smokey and rocky mountains but the past couple years ive been reading things in the paper about eagles slowly moving back into ohio and doing well :D hopefully theyll make it this far north in the next couple decades or so(seeing eagles flying is so cool maybe next time im in indiana ill see if i can catch any glimpses of eagles ;) (my grandma lives in huntington, IN and i go there about 10 times a year or so)) now we just need to get some of the other animals(bison, wolves, etc. to move back in :D

Bald eagles aren't that common in IN, but you'll occasionally hear about some in central IN or so. But it surprised me that one lived here. Like Phantom said, it's always a joy. :D

Yes, we have tons of red-tailed hawks and a few falcons.

it's really strange that a bald eagles ends up in Indiana

A fact is a simple statement that everyone believes. It is innocent, unless found guilty. A hypothesis is a novel suggestion that no one wants to believe. It is guilty, until found effective.

Well, I suppose it is. Of course, I haven't seen a bald eagle flying free outside of a zoo before. I wonder if that eagle's still over at the Forks. Boy, I hope so. I hope it's doing well and making itself comfy up there. Sittin' on those branches would be a pain in the rear for me. Literally, too!

there was an article in our news paper today about bald eagles and how the government is trying to get them taken off the "threatened" list because theyve rebounded so well after the outlawing of DDT :D in the last 40 years theyve gone from 417 wild breeding pairs in the US to over 6500 today :D they were endangered in 43 states in the late 70s but today they are only threatened the lower 48 states(there arent any in hawaii and alaska has avery strong population of them) and the government is trying to remove the threatened status :D

Well, that's some seriously good news. :)) I'm glad the population of bald eagles are rising. They're such beautiful creatures. And such large ones, too. Bald eagles have a wingspan of over six feet, well most of them. ;)
