I was just wondering if it would be possible to edit the uca file so that the stand animations are also used for e.g. the groom animations without having to add the stand images in the groom animation set in APE. If it is possible what do you need to change in the uca?
A fact is a simple statement that everyone believes. It is innocent, unless found guilty. A hypothesis is a novel suggestion that no one wants to believe. It is guilty, until found effective.

If you do not have groom graphics, then it is much better (because of size and loading time) to change the "uca" file instead of adding the stand graphics to the groom set in APE. Inside the "uca" file, there is at least one Animations section. Inside those sections, there would be lines such as "groom = groom". If you have stand graphics, then these should be changed to "groom = stand" or to some other appropriate graphics that you have. (I usually change it to some type of graphics that move the head, if such graphics exist.) To the left of the "=" is the name of the animation. To the right of the "=" is the folder name in the ztd that contains some type of graphics.
APE does a very bad job at creating and changing the "uca" file. I highly recommend getting the Uca Editing Guide in the APE Editing & Tutorials section of this forum. For every animal I test or help to make more efficient, I use the guide as I go through every line of the "uca" file. It even gives an example that answers your question (although it uses "jump_high = highjump" and "jump_high = run" in the example).
