I know this should probably go in AK, but I think this is important...

Keiko, the whale many of us knew as "Free Willy" has passed away. This is a very sad day, though it was pretty predictable.

Read about it here...

Free Willy Dies

I am very sad...

Awww, poor Keiko! At least he lived a very full life.

He had a good life for a whale. I still think he could have lived healthier if he wasn't in those movies but those are just my feelings. Anyways, may he rest in peace and let us always remeber him.

27 is young for a whale. RIP Keiko. He should never have been captured to start with.

I could not stop crying today when I found out... On my website I dedicated a page to him and wrote,
"Although he is dead, Keiko was luckier than hundreds of Orcas who never saw the ocean again. Every day of freedom he had was one day he wasn't suffering. In Japanese, Keiko means "lucky one"."

I have loved Orcas nearly all my life, and Keiko was my first "orca love". Captivity has its ups and downs, and one of the ups is many people are exposed to a beautiful creature. The downs are abuse, shorter life, lonlieness, and more stressful life...

I was wondering...you know how they said he stranded himself? Well, since he has lived in captiviy most of his life, he woudln't have known to do that...I was thinking that maybe there was some foul play involved. Forced strandings by humans are not uncommon... we know that some Norwegen fishermen wanted Keiko dead because they claimed he was eating their fish... Oh i just dont know...

Now the other aquariums will use his death as an excuse not to free their older orcas, but rather work them in shows until death...

StyleGal15 Posted: Dec 14 2003, 10:32 AM
yea i heard about that yesterday...i was sad...but they said that they let him go in the ocean a year and half ago. And he had phemonia, poor Keiko. They said that they don't know weither to bury him at sea or land.

kielo91 Posted: Dec 14 2003, 10:48 AM
I heard about that. Keiko had a hard life. He was constantly transported from place to place, and got sick many, many times. He's in a better place, no more suffering.

Like I always say,
"Although the body is gone, the spirit will always remain."

May you rest in peace, Keiko, our movie star and beloved friend.

StyleGal15 Posted: Dec 14 2003, 01:39 PM

Capt.Rutlinger Posted: Dec 15 2003, 09:13 AM

sand_dolphin Posted: Dec 15 2003, 12:48 PM
I don' think Willy could take the wild...they should of kept it in captivivty.

Bengal_man Posted: Dec 15 2003, 09:26 PM
That orca lived a very long life...

Blackhorse Posted: Dec 16 2003, 01:42 PM
Oh, poor Keiko... that's so sad.

Mica Posted: Dec 18 2003, 07:26 AM
I feel so sad! I didn't even like the Free Willy movies, but it is so sad to see an orca so famous die. I've seen Shamu perform, but now, I wish they would let him go. I'm going to make a Keiko for MM right away!

Snowleopard Posted: Dec 18 2003, 10:09 AM
Poor Keiko
It's so sad that his addiction to humans is what led to this. Captivity does have it's ups and downs and it's a sad thing when it comes to this
May he rest in peace

What we all know is Keiko Will forever be in our hearts..

And I herd that they had a funeral for him in Norway where he is now buried and I know how he died, well it was from pneumonia and his Funeral took place during a snow storm and Keiko will be sadly and forever missed.
