I know you all play zootycoon but do any of you really work at a zoo? I work at two, although ones not really a zoo, its a sanctuary and I don't get paid at either zoo. I volunteer at the Tulsa Zoo and I volunteer at Safari's Wildlife Sanctuary. At Safari's we take care of exotic animals that were once peoples 'pets'.

I'm not old enough to work, so not me! My dream and ambition is to be a marine conservationist and protect endangered species. I will probably volunteer at a local wildlife park sometime as a beginning job and work up from that.

I'm at Colorado State University studying for a zoology degree. I hope either to work in a zoo or be an animal welfare officer when I finish my degree.

I keep saying that I'll find time to volunteer at the local zoo, but I'm still searching for it...
(the time that is, not the zoo!)

I know Okapi works at a zoo. I don't, though.

I wish... if I don't get into vet school, working at a zoo will be one of my options though.

I know how you feel Sweet16. I worked as a high counselor at a middle school camp once. Those "monkeys" drove me up the wall. But it was a fun experience.

I did kinda. It was more of a field trip where for one day we let the real zookeepers just watch us bumble around though i did like one thing: Owl pellets. They look like hair-balls but here's the fun part if you get enough owl pellets you could build one mouse, maybe a shrew, if it's a big owl a rat, once and a while a mole, and even a few snake bones. but none of that is why i liked it. No there was one kid who always beat me up on the bus but as soon as i showed him even half of an owl pellet he immediately quite KOing me. Where I'm moving there is a nearby zoo but... apparently a bunch of people want babysitters and guess who's avalible but would rather run away and work for the zoo.

I did 'work experience' (twice ) at the Royal Melbourne Zoo, here in oz.
Mainly worked with macropods and birds of the world but i did get the chance to work with the zoo vet for a day and have a day in the animal nursery.
'Mazuri' the gorilla was born just before i started so i got to play with him for a little while. (that is a while ago now isnt it , showin my age)
I can remember 'charlie' the gibbon that didnt have a propper enclosure, so he spent his days out the back near the staff tea rooms - what a character.
Tried to persue a job there but back then the waiting list was 3 yrs long (if you showed up every month and reapplied),and by that time - due to living pressures - i had to take up other work.
Now theres a course you do b4 working there but its extreemly costly, and still a waiting list.
