Do you remember several months ago there was an online article and postings on the lounge about the financial problems with the New York Zoos, Botanical Gardens, and Aquariums? The article encouraged us to respond and show support for the cause. I did.
I received a letter on January 26 from Joseph L. Bruno, President Pro Tem of the Senate, State of New York thanking me for my concern. Apparently the financial problems have eased; the state legislature approved $4.93 million to be used for the zoos, gardens, and aquariums.
I don't know if that will be an annual allocation or a one-time payment. That sounds like a lot of money but if it's a one-time payment when it's divided amongst all the facilities, it won't last the year.
I'm going to do some research and see if this is an annual budget allocation. If you find anything, let me know, please.

I recieved the same letter. I am happy of course that I might have helped--however, like you, I thought that 4.93 milliion wasn't very much for a one-time payment, if that is what it was. I also wish to know more about what action is actually being taken to support these zoos. The letter could just as easily be an act of appeasement as it is confirmation that the efforts of the zoo's supporters has been rewarded fairly.
Great to hear that money, in any amount, is being used to help animals out. Remember: a little bit goes a long way.
