Now that December is here, I enjoy the music of winter (in the northern hemisphere) or of Christmas. Of course, I might be tired of it by the end of the month. But in the meantime...

My favorite CDs containing such music is "Now That's What I Call Christmas". It is a 2 CD set containing 36 songs from 1949 through 2001. It is a varied set: instrumental and vocal; novelty and serious. There is also a short paragraph giving the history for each song. My favorite song on the set is "My Only Wish (This Year)" by Britney Spears. (I can relate to the song. It is also the only song of hers I actually like.) But I like a number of the other songs on the CDs as well: "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" (Dean Martin), "The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" (Johnny Mathis), Jingle Bell Rock (Bobby Helms), "Little Drummer Boy/Peace On Earth" (Bing Crosby & David Bowie), "Do They Know It's Christmas?" (Band Aid), "Wonderful Christmastime" (Paul McCartney), "Our Love Is Like A Holiday" (Michael Bolton), and "Love On Layaway" (Gloria Estefan).

My favorite song for this time of year is "Carol Of The Bells". I was searching for years for the perfect version. My favorite is on the "Harry Simeone Chorale - The Little Drummer Boy" CD. That CD also has a few other songs I like: "The Little Drummer Boy" (my favorite version of this as well), "'Twas The Night Before Christmas", "O Bambino (One Cold And Blessed Winter)", and "Mary's Little Boy Chile (Calypso Christmas Song)".

There are a number of other songs I like for this time of year, and even some I am still looking for the perfect CD versions (such as "Winter Wonderland" and "Feliz Navidad").

Are there others here that enjoy the music from this time of year? If so, what are your favorites?

It has to be said that I do.
But in moderation, there's this wierd phenomena that I noticed when shopping the other day, that I could walk from one shop to the next and be "followed" by the same song.
It happened three times, very odd.
My fave christmas tunes are : Santa Claus is coming to town (the Springsteen version)
and the Crosby/Bowie classic rendition of Drummer boy

I am going with Jay. I really love Carol of the Bells. I will have to look out for that CD. It doesn't seem to be the most commonly recorded song either. But soooo pretty.

Last year my friends and I went caroling. Hopefully we will this year again. I enjoyed it so much. And just the anticipation of that evening was enough to cause me to start talking and now my friends can't get me to stop! I used to be a very quiet, one-word-answer person IRL. Don't know what happened but my friends wanted me to break out of my shell. Now they say they've created a monster. :p We had much fun singing The First Noel. Because I was trying to do a harmony part... and I squeaked. bad. But then my guy friends (at least one of whom has a wider and higher vocal range than I) picked up what I was trying to do and sang that harmony for the rest of the song. It was fantastic.

My favorites are "Silent Night" and the ever popular "Grandma got run over by a Reindeer". I like pretty much all Christmas music.

Hmmm... how to get online caroling to work. It isn't the connecting a microphone to a local computer and save as a wav file part; it's the bandwidth issue. Sounds take up far more bandwidth than pictures (at least static pictures). Hmmm.

My most favorite Christmas song is "O Holy Night." I especially like the rendition by Celine Dion because she is able to hit all the low and high notes with such ease, and she also sings a portion of it in French, which is actually quite beautiful.

My favorite silly song is "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer."

i like lots of christmas songs but know the words to very few (because i'm in concert band and not in choir) we are playing a coventry carol arrangement thats really cool and we also play sleigh ride (which is impossibly fast and nothing but 8th and 16th note runs and triplets for us trumpets (and im 3rd trumpet but play 1st cornet part on this song (because the 1st and 2nd play the trumpet part which is acctually easier that the 1st cornet ) but if you can get it its pretty fun and sounds cool)

I must say, I'm not a fan of Christmas, because I don't really celebrate it. But I do like the songs "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" and "Dominic the Donkey"... ehe...
This Christmas I was living with my father, who is not the same religion as my mother, so I celebrated my first Christmas in about 10 years.
I was also practically "forced" to sing "Silent Night" solo, at my fathers church... although I got many compliments on it, I still think I did horribly...
